After busting his ass over the northern east coast indy feds, BD Barlow got his break and started out in the Psychotic Wrestling Alliance (PWA) with a very big shadow looming over him, being the brother of the legendary Phantom Lord. After Phantom was fired by PWA owner Villiano 187, Barlow hoped to bring his brother back, aligning himself with Showstoppa and Mass Chaos to form Murder Inc. on Pyromania. But after failing to defeat Villiano at Pyromania 8.3, Barlow disbanded himself from Showstoppa and began to rediscover himself. Barlow teamed with Mass Chaos one last time in a tag team match at the One Way Ticket (2006) pre-show, but decided to walk away from his partner in a losing effort against Kross and Flare.
After going undrafted at the 2006 PWA Draft, he found out he had an uncle, Bat Masterson, that was a legendary law figure in the Old West. He ditched the Barlow name and rebranded himself as Bryan Masterson to adopt his uncle's namesake. After being trained by the legendary Funk brothers and adapting the Spinning Toe Hold in his moveset, he saw a chance to finally break free of Phantom's shadow and make a name for himself on Insanity.
After a series of vignettes aired, Masterson returned to defeat "Wildman" Chris Montana. But any momentum that Masterson had built was nixed by tough booking, first losing to Eric Scorpio at Insanity LIVE from Los Angeles, then being forced to team with Shorty against the up-and-coming Pope Fred and Slegna.
Masterson would not appear on LPW programming again.
